CB Radios
Do I Need a CB Radio in My Truck?
CB radios aren't just for truckers anymore. If you drive for work, tow, or spend time off-grid, a CB can be genuinely useful. Here's when it makes sense.

Who Actually Uses a CB Radio?
CB radios aren't as common as they used to be, but they're far from dead. If you fall into any of these categories, a CB is genuinely useful — not just a novelty.
Work Trucks and Fleets
If you drive a work truck — construction, oilfield, ranch, farm — a CB keeps you in touch with your crew without burning cell minutes or relying on cell signal. On job sites and rural properties, CB is still the standard.
Towing and Hauling
If you tow a trailer, haul equipment, or drive a rig, a CB lets you communicate with other drivers on the road, get traffic alerts, and call for help in areas with no cell service.
Off-Grid and Rural
If you hunt, fish, ride trails, or work in remote parts of East Texas, cell service isn't guaranteed. A CB gives you a communication option that doesn't depend on a cell tower.
Emergency Backup
When cell service goes down — storms, power outages, remote areas — a CB is a lifeline. Channel 9 is the emergency channel, monitored by highway patrols and other drivers.
What You Need
A CB setup requires:
- The radio itself — a quality unit with good range
- An antenna — the antenna matters more than the radio. A properly tuned antenna makes a cheap CB outperform an expensive one with a bad antenna
- Proper installation — clean wiring, good ground, antenna tuned to the right frequency
A bad installation means poor range, static, and interference. A good installation means clear communication when you need it.
